Rockbridge Grown is a citizen's effort, led by residents of Rockbridge and neighboring counties who are passionate about connecting those who want to find locally grown food with those who produce the food in Rockbridge and neighboring counties. Rockbridge Grown operates under the auspices of Rockbridge Area Conservation Council and meets on one Wednesday a month at 12:00 in the RACC offices (second floor of the Wachovia Bank building in downtown Lexington).  Meeting notices are sent to members and friends via e-mail.

Donations are always welcome and are used primarily for print materials to promote growing and eating local foods.  Mailing address:  PO Box 87, Lexington, VA 24450

Rockbridge Grown is committed to promoting the sustainable production and consumption of local agricultural products and services in order to nourish regional economic, environmental, and physical health.

Every House A Garden

Rockbridge Grown, along wtih Rockbridge Area Conservation Council, sponsors Every House A Garden, a program that encourages family gardens (and better nutrition) in Rockbridge County.

Every House A Garden (EHAG) focuses on families with children or elderly members who:
  • Receive food stams
  • Are eligible for Food Pantry boxes
  • Own a Habitat home
The four parts of the EHAG program depend on community volunteers:
  • Gardening mentors: experienced in gardening without chemicals, who will visit a nearby EHAG family once a week during growing season to teach gardening techniques and help solve problems that arise in the gardens
  • Volunteer work crews:  3-4 people to set up the gardens (required about 4 hours per garden)
  • Work Crew Coordinator for each garden, shceduling the set-up, demonstrates the process, gets the material to the site
  • Financial support:  $250 per garden
